Temples (also called Bukkaku) are Buddhist ritual facilities. It is a living place of those who follow the teaching of Buddha and aim to achieve spiritual enlightenment. Of course it has not changed since the old days. However, they are considered as the place where “to visit the graves in the New Year” or “to hold a funeral” among many Japanese people. Id like to comment and outline project concept. Considering this controversial name i was of course counting with some mocking and wondering. The name is asking for it. Paradox is that it’s been talked about because of the name, which is cool. Ive been pleased about articles positively commenting graphic style, which is constantly improving. At the first look the game seems to be meant for small children, but looks can be deceiving.

At the first look the game seems to be meant for small children, but looks can be deceiving.The word “Bukkaku” is (surprisingly) japanese for Buddhist temple... It is the cornerstone, of which will be everything based on. There will be many of these temples in the game and they will provide a shelter or home for you. But the temples will also serve as a place to gain experience.
Now we are getting to a next topic. That is lately often discussed project name, which is confused by many with a sexual context expression.
If you re wondering why it sounds so similar to bukkake (which so many of you have already pointed out), its because its actually derived from the same root (bukkake is 打っ掛け). The first kanji (打) means “strike” or “suddenly”.
Mainly its corresponding with the obvious “shattering to pieces” reflecting graphic style.
Bukkaku is actually a word, for anyone wondering. It means “to break into pieces / to chip off”. Fitting for the way the characters break into pieces in that art style.
